UNIX Incorrectly Observes Operating System's Daylight Savings Time; Affects Free Time Search

Technote Number: 1085944

Problem:
The problem of the DST setting reverting back to 0 in the Notes.ini was
reported to Lotus Quality Engineering and was addressed in Domino 5.0.3 Server
and Domino 5.0.2c Server.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 5.0.3 QMR fix list:

Web Server - Unix only
SPR# JCHN4DCL7Z - Fix a problem introduced in R5.0.1a with improper time
calculations being done on Unix servers when daylight savings time is not in
effect, causing the times in Web server documents to be one hour off.
[5.0.3,5.0.2b]

This issue does not occur in the Calendaring & Scheduling feature of Notes 6
Client and Domino 6 Server.

Supporting Information:

On a UNIX platform, Domino takes the timestamp from the operating system.

To NOT observe DST the customer should do the following:

set TZ environment to TZ EST5
which will set DST to Zero (0) in the Notes.ini file

In order to observe DST the customer should do the following:

set the TZ environment to EST5EDT
which will set DST to 1 in the notes.ini file
